    THE BUBBLE GUM SHOOT

These images are from recent shoot with Hayley and Gayle. Hayley is great model I’ve shot with many times now and always a pleasure to work with.  Gayle is a friend of her who she recommended that does make-up and hair. This was our first shoot together was was very happy and ended up working together again on shoot for Bexion Boutique.

The idea was simple, bright, colorful and hubba bubba :)  I had idea in my head how wanted the photos to look after editing.

There was two lighting set ups and as always very simple.

First was 1 light bounced back from silver brolly above the camera.  The second was example same but with second light behind model on slightly higher power setting with reflector disc.

The images were edited in lightroom 4 as usual with changes to contrast, blacks, whites, highlights, clarity, saturation and vibrance as well as split toning.  They were then taken into Photoshop, layers were dubplicated, added some motion blue - technique I love - then used layer mask and large soft brush to let the face come through.

All in all I was very happy with them and another successful  shoot :)

Lukas came into the college studios to help me out with some work a few years back/ I had only shot in studio on couple of occasions and was still learns.

The two portraits with white background with shot with 5 lifts, two  behind Lukas lighting background which were also shielded from spilling with reflectors. a light at either side of him and slightly behind then main light above. It was shot on Nikon D80 I beleive with kit 18-55 lens.

I’ve been quite lucky when learning that most of my friends look quite god on camera, made things  much esier when was first staring out.

Always been a fan of simple black and white studio portrait  especially head shots. When you can get a photograph to be stunning without needing colour, props, clothes etc then you’ve done well!

    THE CHOCOLATE SHOOT

An old shoot from  January 2011 but still one of my favorites  While studying at college and doing my graded unit I came across a photo using chocolate and thought “I have to try that!!”

The lighting was very simple to set up , one studio flash slightly to camera right with medium sized softbox and reflector below the model.

I used a Nikon D80 for this shoot a camera I still use today which surprises some people but I love that little thing :)     The lens was my favourite, 50mm 1.8

The first image is a recent edit done completely in Lightroom 4 which I mainly use these days.   The other two are old edits done in photoshop and think it really shows how my post-production has came on the last couple of years.

Amber is a dream to work with! She does hair and make-up so makes shoots very easy to organize :)   She was quite happy to be covered head to two in home made chocolate sauce!!  Which I might add didn’t taste as good as it looked. I made the sauce myself but to get it thick enough to look good I added ALLOT of flour. Ashame really!

    DARE SALON

These are even older from March 2010. I was still studying HND Photography at Aberdeen college at the time when Dare Salon approached me to do some photographs for them.

This was my first paid job and god did I blag it!!! This was the first time I worked with a make up artist or hair stylist and photographed someone other than a friend coming into the college studio for me or friends n family before I went to college.

I just kept professional and pretended I knew what i was talking about I think to this day they have no idea how much I was crapping myself that day.  Leading up to the shoot I went in to speak to the stylists and see what they were wanting from the shoot.

he shoots were over two days with around 7 models I think doing many different looks. The photographs were for stylists to get a chance to see what it’s like to work with a photographer and the salon could of been using the photographs (which they ended up doing)

I was using a Nikon D40 at the time with the kit zoom lens 18-55 I think!  I had borrowed three portable flash heads from the college and bough a pop up background online which was a nightmare. I’m not sure how I managed to use that looking back.  The day I got my first paper background was a very happy day :)

The photographs turned out really well and was pleased with them including one of my favorite photos I’ve taken. These are some re-edits I’ve just done in Lightroom 4.
